Clothing
Loose, breathable fabrics handle the heat far better than anything tight or synthetic. Pack at least one outfit that covers shoulders and knees for temple visits — this is required at Angkor and most pagodas, for both men and women. A light rain jacket is worth carrying if you're travelling between June and October.
Footwear
Comfortable, sturdy walking shoes are essential for the uneven stone steps of Angkor's temples, while sandals or flip-flops make sense for markets, beaches, and the frequent shoe removal required at pagodas.
Sun and insect protection
A wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and high-SPF sunscreen are non-negotiable near the equator. Insect repellent is worth having, particularly in rural areas and around dusk.
Practical extras
A reusable water bottle, a portable power bank, a universal plug adapter (Cambodia uses a mix of two- and three-pin sockets at 230V), and a basic first-aid kit round out a sensible packing list.
