Arrival in Phnom Penh, welcome and transfer to the hotel (room available from 2:00 pm). Free time to rest or explore the city at your leisure. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Day 2 Day 2 - Phnom Penh - City Tour

After breakfast, cross the Tonlé Sap by ferry. Cycle around Silk Island (Koh Dach), so named for its many weavers who work silk beneath their stilt houses. Lunch at a local restaurant on the island.

Afternoon Phnom Penh - City Tour

In the afternoon, visit the Royal Palace (built in 1919), where important ceremonies and coronations are held, followed by the Silver Pagoda, the most sacred site in Cambodia. Then visit Wat Phnom, the oldest sanctuary in Phnom Penh, which gave the city its name — the pagoda sits atop a 27-metre-high hill and draws large crowds during Buddhist festivals. After visiting the Central Market, return to the hotel. Dinner at your own expense. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Day 3 Day 3 - Phnom Penh – Kampong Cham – Kratié

Drive to Kampong Cham, an authentic small town on the banks of the Mekong. Stop along the way at the village of Skun, known for its culinary specialty: fried insects (spiders, grasshoppers, etc.).

Afternoon Phnom Penh – Kampong Cham – Kratié

In the afternoon, visit the temples of Wat Nokor Bachey, Phnom Pros and Phnom Srey. Drive through little-visited countryside to Kratié, a sleepy town on the banks of the Mekong. Opposite lies Koh Trong Island, showcasing a lovely slice of rural Cambodia with its cycling paths and floating villages. On arrival in Kratié, visit temples and basket-weaving villages, then watch the sunset over the Mekong delta. Dinner and overnight with a local host family.

Day 4 Day 4 - Kratié – Mondulkiri

Morning Kratié – Mondulkiri

Before departing for Mondulkiri, a short boat cruise on the Mekong to spot freshwater dolphins. Departure for Mondulkiri, renowned for its rich flora and fauna: mountains and vast forests of rubber and cashew trees. This region is home to ethnic minorities (Mnong, Jarai, Kochok, etc.). A few stops along the way to meet villagers.

Afternoon Kratié – Mondulkiri

Arrival in the afternoon at Sen Monorom, the provincial capital. Sunset over Dos Kromom Hill, at the end of a dirt track lined with Mnong hamlets. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 Day 5 - Mondulkiri - Trekking (5 hours walking)

Morning Mondulkiri - Trekking (5 hours walking)

A day devoted to trekking through this wild region. After breakfast, transfer to an elephant community where you'll experience walking alongside the herd. Picnic lunch, then trek with the elephants through Mondulkiri's dense tropical forest to a refreshing waterfall where you can bathe your travel companions. Return to the hotel in Sen Monorom.

Day 6 Day 6 - Mondulkiri – Ratanakiri (4 hours drive)

Morning Mondulkiri – Ratanakiri (4 hours drive)

Departure for Bou Sra Waterfall, the most beautiful and famous in Mondulkiri. Continue on to Ban Lung, the capital of Ratanakiri province in the far northeast of Cambodia. This remote region is home to astonishing biodiversity and highland peoples known as the Khmer Loeu. Visit the spectacular volcanic lake of Yeak Lom, 8 km from Ban Lung.

Day 7 Day 7 - Ratanakiri - Sightseeing

In the morning, visit Ban Lung market, where various ethnic groups (Kroeung, Tompuon, Jarai) arrive early to sell or trade vegetables, game and forest produce.

Afternoon Ratanakiri - Sightseeing

Departure by car with a guide for the village of Voeune Sai, home to Chinese, Lao and Tompuon communities. Board a dugout canoe on the Se San River to reach a Tompuon village that practises funerary statuary (wooden totems carved in the likeness of the deceased). Overnight in Ratanakiri.

Day 8 Day 8 - Ratanakiri – Stung Treng

After breakfast, departure for Stung Treng, a remote town that was completely destroyed during the war. Visit the ancient temple of Preah Ko. Board a boat for Koh Han, an island set on the mighty Mekong with a forest rich in biodiversity and abundant birdlife. Swimming is possible in the dry season. Return to Stung Treng in the late afternoon. Overnight in Stung Treng.

Day 9 Day 9 - Stung Treng – Preah Vihear – Sraem

After breakfast, drive off the beaten track toward Preah Vihear. Along the way, stops to visit cassava and cashew plantations, depending on the season.

Afternoon Stung Treng – Preah Vihear – Sraem

In the afternoon, visit Prasat Preah Vihear: ascend via a 4x4 access road that winds up the steep mountainside to the first enclosure walls of this spectacular mountain-temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore on foot up to the summit, following the cliffs of the Dangrek range, with breathtakingly beautiful panoramas over the Cambodian plains. Overnight in Sraem (basic accommodation).

Day 10 Day 10 - Sraem – Koh Ker – Beng Mealea – Siem Reap

Morning Sraem – Koh Ker – Beng Mealea – Siem Reap

Departure for Koh Ker, the former capital of the Khmer Empire under King Jayavarman IV. Climb Prasat Thom, a seven-tiered pyramid offering a superb panorama over the surrounding forest. Nearby stands Prasat Krahom (the Red Temple), named for the colour of its red sandstone blocks. Far from the crowds of Angkor, Koh Ker enchants with its deserted temples and silence, broken only by birdsong.

Afternoon Sraem – Koh Ker – Beng Mealea – Siem Reap

On the way to Siem Reap, visit Beng Mealea, a temple overrun by the jungle: trees growing atop the towers, roots and vines wrapped around the columns, and collapsed sandstone blocks to clamber over to reach the central tower. Overnight in Siem Reap, gateway to the temples of Angkor.

Day 11 Day 11 - Siem Reap - Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat

Breakfast at the hotel. 8:00 am: departure to explore Angkor Thom (the Great City) through the South Gate. Discover the Bayon, with its 54 towers bearing gigantic, enigmatic four-faced carvings, then the Baphuon (a three-tiered pyramid and major EFEO restoration project), the Royal Palace, the Terrace of the Leper King adorned with apsara figures, and the Terrace of the Elephants. Then visit Ta Prohm temple, overtaken by giant silk-cotton trees, where scenes from the Lara Croft film were shot. Lunch at your own expense.

Afternoon Siem Reap - Angkor Thom, Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat

In the afternoon, departure to visit Angkor Wat temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built in the 12th century in honour of Vishnu. Angkor Wat is the best known and most majestic of all the temples.

8:00 am: discover Banteay Srei temple (the Citadel of Women), dedicated to Shiva and famous for its pink sandstone carvings. On the way back, visit Banteay Samré temple. Lunch at your own expense.

8:00 am: departure for the village of Kampong Khleang, about 50 km from Siem Reap. Its roughly ten thousand inhabitants live almost entirely from fishing. You'll explore the canals (rainy season) or streets (dry season) of this incredible floating town, then visit a pagoda built on the site of an ancient temple, decorated with lovely mural paintings. Boat trip to one of the village houses to learn more about the life of fishermen on Southeast Asia's largest freshwater lake. Lunch at your own expense.

On the way back, visit the Roluos group of temples (Lolei, Bakong and Preah Ko), then local markets and craft workshops.

Day 14 Day 14 - Siem Reap – Kulen Mountain

Meet at 8:00 am at reception, departure for Kulen Mountain, capital of the Khmer Empire from 802 AD. About a 1.5-hour drive to reach the summit, followed by a visit to the River of a Thousand Lingas, stretching 247 metres, and the pagoda housing the great reclining Buddha. At the end of the visit, discover the waterfall, with the option to bathe there. Return to Siem Reap, stopping along the way at a palm-sugar workshop and getting a taste of authentic countryside life. In town, visit Siem Reap's most beautiful pagoda, Wat Preah Prum Roth, then stop by craft workshops (Artisans d'Angkor, Senteurs d'Angkor).

Day 15 Day 15 - Siem Reap – Battambang

Morning Siem Reap – Battambang

After breakfast, head for Battambang (3 hours). On arrival in Battambang, visit a traditional house in Wat Kor village, built during the colonial era and now run by the third generation of the same family. Then head to Phnom Sampeou (16 km from Battambang). Atop a limestone outcrop stands a temple complex now home to monkeys, offering a superb view over the surrounding plains. Wait for the bats to stream out of the cave at nightfall.

Morning Battambang

Morning: discover Cambodia's second-largest city. Stop at the vibrant local market. We follow the river along its right bank to visit Wat Samroung Knong, built in 1707 (an old pagoda decorated with precious wood); behind it lies a memorial to children who died during the Khmer Rouge era. Optional, depending on time available: cross the river to visit a rice-cracker workshop, learn how krolan (sticky rice in bamboo) is prepared, visit the prahoc (fermented fish paste) market, Ek Phnom temple, an incense-stick workshop, Vat Damrei Sâ pagoda (early 20th century), a small museum, and a ride on the 'Bamboo Train'.

Afternoon: excursion to Prasat Banon (Banon Hill), a lovely temple perched atop a hill — 368 steps to climb, fans at the ready!

Day 17 Day 17 - Battambang – Phnom Penh

Morning 16:00 Battambang – Phnom Penh

Departure from Battambang for the small town of Pursat, roughly halfway to Phnom Penh. In Pursat: visit Kampong Luong by private boat, an astonishing floating town of nearly 12,000 inhabitants that shifts position as the lake level changes. Visit the potters' village at Kampong Chhnang and the goldsmiths' village at Oudong. 36 km before Phnom Penh, visit the province's most beautiful pagoda, at the foot of Oudong Hill (Cambodia's former capital from the 17th to the 19th century). Expected arrival in Phnom Penh between 4:00 and 4:30 pm. Overnight in Phnom Penh (hotel to be booked by you).

Day 18 Day 18 - Phnom Penh – Kampot

Departure for Kampot. Along the way, visit Phnom Chisor temple (an 11th-century brick temple) perched on a hill with a beautiful view over the region. Next, visit Putkiri Pagoda, home to numerous Buddha statues, then the great cave of Kampong Trach. Overnight in Kampot.

Day 19 Day 19 - Kampot – Kep

8:30 am: meet at the hotel reception, then head for Kep: visit the pepper plantations and pepper shop (about 2 hours). Then explore the mangrove forest by boat. Lunch at your own expense.
