Airport pickup and transfer to your hotel. Your room is available from 2:00 pm. The rest of the day is free for you to acclimatize or explore the capital at your own pace. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Day 2 Day 2 - Discovering Phnom Penh

Morning: cross the Tonlé Sap by ferry to reach Koh Dach, the Silk Island. Hop on a bicycle to ride the island's trails and watch the weavers at work beneath their stilt houses. Lunch at a local restaurant on the island.

Afternoon Discovering Phnom Penh

Afternoon: visit the Royal Palace (built in 1919) and the sumptuous Silver Pagoda, one of Cambodia's most sacred sites. Then head to Wat Phnom, the hill on which the city was founded (27 metres high, 5 hectares), especially lively during Buddhist festivals. A last stop at the Central Market before returning to the hotel. Dinner at your own expense. Overnight in Phnom Penh.

Morning: Drive to Kampong Cham, a peaceful town on the banks of the Mekong. Stop at the village of Skun, famous for its insect market — fried spiders, grasshoppers, and other local specialities to sample if you're curious.

Afternoon From Phnom Penh to Kratie via Kampong Cham

Afternoon: Visit three temples in the afternoon — Wat Nokor Bachey, Phnom Pros, and Phnom Srey. Drive through remote countryside to Kratie. Opposite the town, Koh Trong island offers an authentic rural setting with its cycling trails and floating hamlets. Visit a few temples and a basket-weaving village. Sunset over the Mekong delta. Dinner and overnight stay with a local family (homestay).

Day 4 Day 4 - Kratie to Mondulkiri

Morning: Before leaving Kratie, take a short cruise on the Mekong to spot freshwater dolphins. Drive to Mondulkiri, a wild region of rolling hills covered in rubber and cashew plantations. Arrival in Sen Monorom, the provincial capital, in the late afternoon, in time to watch the sunset over Dos Kromom hill. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 Day 5 - Trekking and Elephants in Mondulkiri (5 hours of walking)

Morning Trekking and Elephants in Mondulkiri (5 hours of walking)

Morning: A full day devoted to walking in the great outdoors. Depart for an elephant community where you'll experience walking alongside the herd. Picnic in the middle of the rainforest. You'll trek through dense jungle to a waterfall where the elephants love to bathe — and so will you. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon.

Day 6 Day 6 - Mondulkiri to Ratanakiri (4 hours' drive)

Morning: First stop at Bou Sra Waterfall, the most beautiful in Mondulkiri, nestled at the foot of Mount Doh Kramom. Continue on to Ban Lung, the capital of Ratanakiri in the far northeast. This remote territory is home to exceptional biodiversity and Khmer Loeu (highland) communities. Visit the crystal-clear volcanic Yeak Lom Lake. Overnight in Ratanakiri.

Morning: Start the day at Ban Lung's morning market, where Kroeung, Tampuan, and Jarai people trade vegetables, game, and forest-gathered plants. Bumpy track to the village of Voeune Sai, home to a mix of Chinese, Lao, and Tampuan communities. Board a dugout canoe on the Se San River to reach a Tampuan cemetery, adorned with funerary statues — wooden totems carved in the likeness of the deceased. Overnight in Ratanakiri.

Morning: Drive to Stung Treng, a town that was entirely destroyed during the war and later rebuilt. Visit the ancient Preah Ko temple. Boat trip to Koh Han, a forested island rich in birdlife and biodiversity. This sandbank in the middle of the Mekong is home to a rural island village. Swimming is possible in the dry season. Return to Stung Treng. Overnight there.

Afternoon Stung Treng to Preah Vihear to Sraem

Afternoon: 4x4 ascent to Prasat Preah Vihear, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed temple perched on a cliff. The steep approach rewards you with a breathtaking panorama over the Cambodian plains. The site sees few visitors — you'll have this gem almost to yourselves. Descend to Sraem. Basic accommodation on site.

Morning Sraem to Koh Ker to Beng Mealea to Siem Reap

Morning: Head to Koh Ker, the short-lived ancient capital under Jayavarman IV. Climb the seven-tiered pyramid of Prasat Thom to admire the forest stretching to the horizon. Discover the Red Temple (Prasat Krahom), with its pinkish stones. No crowds here — just silence and birdsong. On the way to Siem Reap, stop at Beng Mealea: a ruin swallowed by the jungle, where you clamber over sandstone blocks to reach the collapsed central tower. Overnight in Siem Reap.

Morning: 8:00 am: enter through the South Gate of Angkor Thom. Discover the Bayon and its 54 towers carved with four faces, then the Baphuon, the Royal Palace, the Terrace of the Leper King, and the Terrace of the Elephants. Next, Ta Prohm, famous for its silk-cotton trees entwined around the stones (featured in the Lara Croft film). Lunch at your own expense.

Afternoon: Return, discovering the Roluos group of temples (Lolei, Bakong, Preah Ko) along the way, followed by a few markets and craft workshops. Overnight at the hotel.

Morning: 8:00 am: drive to Kulen, the historic site where the Khmer Empire was proclaimed in 802 AD. Journey of about 1.5 hours. Visit the River of a Thousand Lingas, carved with 247 lingas, the Great Reclining Buddha, and swim beneath the waterfall. Return to Siem Reap with a stop at a palm sugar producer. In town, discover Wat Preah Prom Rath and visit craft workshops (Artisans d'Angkor, Senteurs d'Angkor). Overnight at the hotel.

Morning: 3-hour drive to Battambang. Arrival and visit of a colonial-era house in Wat Kor village, run by the third generation of the same family. A unique experience: a bamboo train ride along 7 km of disused railway track. Onward to Phnom Sampeau (12 km). Sweeping views from the limestone summit, with its temples and monkeys. As night falls, witness the spectacular exodus of bats from the cave. Return to Battambang for a stroll through the colonial quarter along the Sangker River. Overnight in Battambang.

Morning: immerse yourself in Battambang's colourful market. On the right bank of the Sangker, visit Wat Samroung Knong (a wooden pagoda dating from 1707), with its grim children's mass grave behind it. Time permitting: rice-cracker making, tasting krolan (sticky rice roasted in bamboo), the prahoc (fermented fish) market, Ek Phnom temple, an incense-stick workshop, Wat Damrei Sar pagoda with its well-preserved bas-reliefs, a small museum, or the bamboo train.

Afternoon Exploring Battambang

Afternoon: climb the 368 steps of Prasat Banon (with fans selling refreshments along the way) for an open view over the countryside. Overnight in Battambang.

Day 17 Day 17 - Return to Phnom Penh via Pursat and Oudong

Morning 16:00 Return to Phnom Penh via Pursat and Oudong

Morning: A flexible itinerary tailored to your interests. Stop in Pursat for a private boat trip through the floating village of Kampong Luong (12,000 residents, whose homes move with the water level of the lake). Other stops: the pottery village of Kampong Chhnang, then a goldsmiths' village at Oudong. Finally, 36 km from Phnom Penh, visit the province's finest pagoda, at the foot of Oudong Hill (the former royal capital from the 17th to 19th centuries). Arrival in Phnom Penh between 4:00 and 4:30 pm. Overnight in Phnom Penh (hotel at your own expense).
